UIC College presented an extraordinary music recital titled “DVISVARA” on Monday, October 7, 2024, at the Kartanegara Recital Hall, South Jakarta. DVISVARA, derived from the Sanskrit meaning “two voices of goddesses,” showcased two talented UIC Music students, Neishya Laurencia and Richelle Magdalene, each presenting unique, original compositions as a culmination of their academic journey.
Neishya Laurencia: “Different Stages of Love”
Neishya Laurencia, known by her stage name Neilaw, is a singer and songwriter who took the audience on an emotional journey through her recital themed “Different Stages of Love.”
Her performance uniquely captured four universal phases of love: limerence, capture, denial, and acceptance. Through heartfelt lyrics and captivating melodies, Neilaw didn’t just sing—she shared the story behind each song, creating a deep connection with the audience.
“This recital is the culmination of everything I’ve learned. Through music, I want to take the audience on a personal journey that I’ve experienced during my time at UIC College. It’s an opportunity to truly showcase who I am as both a musician and a person,” Neilaw expressed. “UIC College didn’t just introduce me to the industry but academically prepared me for my final year in the UK.”
Richelle Magdalene: “Lesson Learn”
Richelle Magdalene, a singer and songwriter with an edgy, swaggy style, is passionate about bringing mental health awareness to the forefront of Indonesia’s music industry.
In her recital themed “Lesson Learn,” Richelle sought to open a conversation about mental health issues that are often overlooked, particularly among younger generations.
She believes everyone has a role to play in helping each other face these challenges. Through her songs, Richelle inspired the audience to care more about their mental well-being and the well-being of those around them.
“For me, this recital wasn’t just about showcasing technical abilities, but also about my artistic growth. Every note and composition tells my story. Music is my way of expressing what’s difficult to put into words, and I hope the audience feels that message through my performance,” said Richelle. “UIC College has given me the opportunity to pursue my passion and prove that dreams can come true with hard work and determination.”
